Better call saul: first season
Let's go on stage!
James Morgan McGill
Jimmy McGill is a con artist who spends his evenings at a bar with his close friend Marco, both engaged in persuading and scamming customers. When Jimmy ends up in prison, his brother Chuck McGill, a lawyer working at the HHM firm, urges him to get his life back on track and gives him one last chance, securing his release. Jimmy then decides to pursue a legal career like Chuck, but he soon discovers his brother’s jealousy and hypocrisy toward him. Jimmy tries to be an honest person but only encounters major failures. Lost cases and a meager salary are just a small part of what he goes through in the series—until he decides to change course, partly thanks to the help of Kim, who also works at HHM.
Beyond Jimmy’s story, many episodes delve into the past of Mike Ehrmantraut, a character who first appeared in Breaking Bad's second season. The series gives us the opportunity to explore the background of one of Breaking Bad's best characters.
Better Call Saul has a significantly slower pace than Breaking Bad, but this is by no means a flaw. On the contrary, the series takes its time to develop and showcase its characters, leaving nothing to chance. The direction and overall cinematography, even from the first season, are excellent, delivering truly stunning shots.
A lost cause?
Absolutely not! Better Call Saul is a brilliantly crafted show that, despite its slow-burning plot, offers an in-depth look at the events leading up to Breaking Bad. Jimmy McGill, whom we know as Saul Goodman, is a charismatic character desperately seeking redemption but ultimately failing. Chuck, Kim, and Howard are just a few of the new characters in Better Call Saul, all written masterfully. The direction and acting are top-notch.
